Lille Beat Nice to Climb to Third in Ligue 1 Ahead of Liverpool Clash
Lille secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Nice on Friday to move into third place in Ligue 1, just days before their crucial Champions League trip to Liverpool.
The win saw Hakon Haraldsson and Bafode Diakite score second-half goals, extending Lille’s unbeaten run in all competitions to a club-record 21 games.
Nice initially took the lead when Sofiane Diop pounced on a loose ball, but Lille responded quickly after the break with Haraldsson’s strike, followed by Diakite’s header from a corner.
The result puts Lille four points behind second-place Marseille, who face Strasbourg on Sunday, and a point ahead of Monaco, who lost 2-1 at Montpellier.
Having already beaten Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Lille now sit eighth in the standings and will look to secure a spot in the knockout phase when they face Liverpool at Anfield next week.
