Israel to Release 95 Palestinians as Part of Ceasefire Deal

Israel’s Ministry of Justice announced on Friday the names of 95 Palestinians who are set to be released on Sunday as part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The list includes women and young men under 25, among them prominent figures such as Khalida Jarrar, a leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Journalist Bushra Al-Taweel, who was previously released in a 2011 prisoner swap, also appears on the list.

Al-Taweel is the daughter of senior Hamas leader Jamal Al-Taweel, a former mayor of Al-Bireh in the West Bank.

Another notable release is Dalal Al-Arouri, the sister of Saleh Al-Arouri, deputy leader of Hamas, who was assassinated by Israel in January last year.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that the security cabinet had approved the prisoner swap and ceasefire agreement, part of a three-phase deal brokered by Qatar.

This agreement aims to end over 15 months of Israeli military actions in Gaza, which have resulted in nearly 47,000 casualties and extensive destruction.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) had previously issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, while Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
