One Dead, Houses Burned in Ebonyi Community Clash

At least one person was killed, and more than ten houses were burned down in Ndieguzu Agalegu Omege community in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Saturday night.

Several individuals were injured following an attack by suspected hoodlums on the community.

The violence reportedly stemmed from a dispute between the people of Omege Agalagu and Ukwuinyima within the council area. The exact cause of the clash remains unclear, but a community source suggested it arose from a conflict in November 2024, when a woman who was allegedly raped and killed was buried.

A source, speaking anonymously, stated, “More than 10 houses and property worth millions of Naira have been destroyed. The government must take action.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed on Sunday that one person had been killed in the incident.

He explained that two youths from the rival communities fought, with one from Omege being stabbed.

“He later died in hospital. His death prompted members of his community to attack Omege and set fire to several mud houses with thatch roofs.”

“However, the police intervened and prevented further damage. The situation has been brought under control.”

The Police spokesman also confirmed that officers were maintaining order in the area and had launched an investigation. The individual responsible for the stabbing has been arrested.
