NDDC Speeds Up Benin-Irrua Road Repairs In Edo

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has accelerated rehabilitation work on the Benin-Irrua-Ewu-Agbede road in Edo State to ease transportation challenges.

During an inspection, NDDC managing director/CEO Dr Samuel Ogbuku and executive director of projects Sir Victor Antai assessed the ongoing work and reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project.

“This part of the famous Benin-Auchi road has not been motorable for a while; hence, we decided to take up this challenge. Previously, parts of this road were so deep that trailers could sink, but so much progress has been made in this project, especially in filling—stone base, earthwork, and asphalting,” Dr Ogbuku explained.

The Ewu-Agbede section of the road is now fully rehabilitated and motorable, while the 1.7 km Irrua section is nearing completion, with 300 meters of asphalting already finished.

Dr Ogbuku emphasised the project’s economic significance, saying it aligns with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, aiming to improve the quality of life for Nigerians by facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services.

He maintained that the project underscores NDDC’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure in the Niger Delta, boosting connectivity, and fostering economic growth in the region.
