Despite Security Alert, Crowd Gathers For Tijjaniyya Maulud In Kano

Despite the police security alert, thousands of Kano residents trooped to the venue of the Tijjaniyya annual Maulud yesterday.

The event ended peacefully at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano

At the event, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf urged Muslims to continue to pray for God’s blessings and protection from perpetrators of evil.

“We should also continue to pray to Allah to continue to bless to all Nigerians, grant them economic prosperity, unity and good health,” he stated.

The governor added that Kano had a strong link with the Tijjaniyya Islamic Movement as the late Emir Abdullahi Bayero was the one who brought the late leader of the sect, Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas, to Nigeria.

He said it was the third time Kano hosted the Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas Maulud since it started in the country, and thanked God for bestowing the honour on the state.

Earlier, the leader of the Tijjaniyya Islamic Movement in Nigeria and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sunusi II, said the state was happy to receive the participants as guests of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the guests of  Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas.

Sanusi thanked members of the families of the late Sheikh Inyas as well as other members of the movement who came from Senegal, Niger Republic, Morocco and Mauritania for their participation.

He also thanked Governor Yusuf, his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, and other officials of the state government for successfully hosting the event.

Highlights of the event were prayers, reading from the Holy Qur’an and reading of the history of the late Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas.
