The Nigerian Police Force has announced the arrest of Umar Shaibu, a notorious criminal linked to a series of robberies in Abuja traffic and at bus stops. Adejobi Muyiwa, the Public Relations Officer of the Force, made the disclosure during a live coverage by Symfoni TV, where Shaibu was paraded before the media.
While addressing the press, Muyiwa emphasized the importance of exposing Shaibu’s identity to the public. “Let Abuja people see his face,” he said. “He is the one who collects their phones in traffic and at bus stops.” Muyiwa described Shaibu as a menace who targeted unsuspecting commuters and pedestrians, stealing personal items ranging from phones to jewelry.
Among Shaibu’s notable victims is an employee of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Muyiwa revealed that the suspect robbed the NTA staff of her wedding ring and official NTA identification card. Highlighting the recovery of the ID card, Muyiwa expressed relief that it would prevent Shaibu from potentially impersonating a journalist at police headquarters.
“In one incident, he robbed an NTA staff and took her wedding ring and NTA ID card,” Muyiwa stated. “Have we recovered the NTA ID card so that this man will not come to headquarters and say he is a journalist? Anyway, you are here already, don’t worry, we are not afraid of that again.”
The arrest marks a significant step in curbing crime in the Federal Capital Territory. Muyiwa assured residents of the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement efforts.
