Trump’s Aid Suspension Hits Mozambique Health Programmes

Donald Trump’s January 20 executive order halting nearly all foreign aid for 90 days has come into effect in Mozambique, forcing the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to suspend its funded projects.

Mozambique, reliant on US support for health programmes, faces major disruptions. USAID invests over $1 billion annually, including $400 million for HIV/AIDS initiatives. With an 11.6% adult HIV prevalence rate, the halt could severely impact public health.

Trump’s cuts also jeopardise the $537 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Two project in Zambezia Province, except only emergency food and military aid for select nations.
