Mozambican President Swears in New Police Chief, Sets Tasks

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has sworn Joaquim Sive into office as the new General Commander of the Mozambican Police (PRM) on Monday, outlining his key task to “regain the people’s trust in the police.”

Chapo emphasised the importance of “re-establishing regular contact with communities” and “reactivating the community police councils.”

He stressed that every police officer should act as a “genuine patriot” and lead by example, demonstrating adherence to the Constitution and representing a good Mozambican citizen.

The President highlighted the need to tackle organised crime, particularly terrorism and kidnappings, to ensure that “security becomes a reality for all Mozambicans.”

“This is a time for changes,” Chapo remarked, pointing out that the aim was to improve efficiency and maximise resources for better results.

He stressed that no success would be achieved without discipline and urged the new commander to lead by example.

The President also identified key security threats, including terrorism, kidnappings, money laundering, and violent demonstrations, declaring them a priority for eradication.

“We must be more proactive,” Chapo noted, underscoring the importance of taking action before issues arise.

He reaffirmed his commitment to providing the police force with the necessary resources and infrastructure to tackle current security challenges.
