The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared its intention to stage a nationwide protest on Tuesday, February 4, in response to the recent 50% hike in telecommunication tariffs sanctioned by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
This decision was made during the current National Administrative Council (NAC) meeting of the NLC, aiming to firmly signal to the government that workers will challenge policies that increase economic hardship.
NLC President Joe Ajaero released a statement titled “50% Telecom Tariff Hike: Another Burden Too Harsh!” denouncing the action and labelling it an “assault on workers’ welfare.”
He said that the tariff increase occurred when Nigerians were already facing significant economic difficulties.
The protest, supported by other labour and civil society groups, is expected to be held in major cities, where workers and citizens will express their disapproval of the increase.
