BREAKING: Police Arrest 6 Over Violent Clash In Ekiti

No fewer than six suspected hoodlums were arrested on Thursday by men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command following a violent clash that ensued between two warring groups in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.

A source said the clash was between some members of Oodua People Congress (OPC) and commercial motorcycle operations over the death of a motorcycle ticketing officer.

Members of the OPC and the motorcycle riders’ association reportedly engaged one another with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, knives, among others.

The source who spoke under the condition of anonymity said that trouble started when the motorcyclists accused the OPC men of being responsible for the death of their ticketing officer who usually worked close to the OPC office in the Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti.

Men of the Police Rapid Response Squad have been deployed to the scene to restore peace and maintain law and order as at the time of filing this report.

When contacted on the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abutu Sunday said the Command acted on a distress call from the area.

“Today being 09/01/2025 at about 11:20hrs, the Command received a distress call that some hoodlums were attacking and robbing innocent people in Atikankan Area of Ado-Ekiti.

“The operatives of the RRS were deployed to the axis where six of the suspects were arrested.

“They are currently undergoing investigation. Effort is underway to arrest other fleeing members of the gang,” the PPRO said.
