BREAKING: Nigerian Army Senior Officers Redeployed in New Reform

Some Nigerian Army (NA) senior officers have been posted and appointed to various command, staff, and instructional roles with the approval of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, an Army spokesman, said that redeployment is a calculated step to improve administrative and operational effectiveness.

Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at Army Headquarters (AHQ), General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Commandants of Army training facilities, Brigade Commanders, and other important roles are also affected by the relocation. The reorganisation demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s dedication to maintaining a strong and adaptable command structure that can handle new security threats.

Among the senior officers designated as PSOs at Army Headquarters are Maj Gen. LA Fejokwu, who was appointed Chief of Administration (Army) after joining the Department of Army Administration from National Defence College; Maj Gen. GU Chibuisi, who was appointed Chief of Civil Military Affairs after joining the Department of Army Administration from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre; and Maj Gen. AS Ndalolo, who was also appointed Chief of Training (Army) after joining the Department of Army Training from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

Other individuals include Maj Gen JH Abdussalam from Headquarters 6 Division, who was appointed Chief of Special Services and Programmes, and Maj Gen OS Abai, who was transferred from the Department of Army Training to the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation. Maj. Gen. EI Okoro was appointed Military Secretary (Army) after being transferred from the Department of Army Logistics to the Department of Military Secretary.

Major General OT Olatoye of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry was appointed as the General Officer in Command (GOC) of Headquarters 82 Division/Joint Task Force (JTF) South East Operation UDO KA (OPUK) as the GOC 82 Division/Commander JTF OPUK. Maj Gen EF Oyinlola of the Department of Military Secretary was appointed the GOC 3 Division/Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH).

The current redeployment has reaffirmed in substance the acting appointments of Maj Gen IA Ajose as GOC 8 Division/Commander Sector 2 JTF North West Operation FANSAN YANMA and Maj Gen AGL Haruna as GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 JTF North East Operation HADIN KAI.

Maj. Gen. GO Adeshina, who was previously assigned to the Director General of the Nigerian Army Signals Headquarters, was redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre. Additionally, Maj Gen GM Mutkut was transferred from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to Headquarters Multi-National Joint Task Force Njamena, where he served as the Force Commander. As the Director of Media Operations, Maj. Gen. MC Kangye was also redeployed from the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery to the Defense Headquarters.

Among the senior officers designated as Corps Commanders are Maj Gen OC Ajunwa from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, who was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Armour Corps; Maj Gen HT Wesley from the Department of Special Services and Programmes, who was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps; and Maj Gen TT Numbere, who was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Engineers.

Additionally, Maj Gen NC Ugbo from the Department of Civil Military Affairs was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Signals, Maj Gen ZL Abubakar from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, and Maj Gen AP Oguntola from the Nigerian Army College of Education Science and Technology was appointed Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Education Corps.

The redeployment also affected other senior officers, including Maj Gen JO Sokoya, who was appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army Training Centre; Maj Gen UM Alkali, who was appointed Commandant of the Army War College in Nigeria; and Maj Gen FS Etim, who was transferred from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation to the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, an appointed Commandant. The commander, Maj Gen AB Mohammed, was transferred from the Department of Army Operations to Depot Nigerian Army.

Among the other recently appointed senior officers are Brig Gen AM Umar, who was redeployed from Army War College Nigeria to Warrant Officers Academy and appointed Commandant, Maj Gen IE Ekpenyong, who is now Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering, and Maj Gen AO Adegbite, who is now Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport.

The Chief of Army Staff instructed all recently appointed senior officers to approach their work with fresh energy, commitment, and determination, especially as they continue to fight terrorism, insurgency, and other national security threats.

He also tasked them with making sure that, as they took on their new roles, the troops’ well-being was given top priority.
