An airstrike in Kakindawa village, Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State, has reportedly killed several people, including 16 vigilantes, on Saturday evening.
Local resident Garba Umar told media that the incident occurred as vigilantes mobilised to assist neighbours in Tungar Kara village, under attack by bandits rustling livestock and attempting abductions.
“As we headed to Tungar Kara around 3:30 pm, an aircraft dropped a bomb on the vigilantes while the bandits fled into the forest,” Umar said, alleging his son was among the casualties.
The spokesperson for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, stated that an investigation into the incident was underway, with further details yet to be provided.
This follows recent airstrikes in Zamfara that killed numerous bandits, including loyalists of notorious leaders Dan-Isuhu and Dogo Sule, as well as the January 8 elimination of terrorist leader Sani Rusu and his fighters in Tsafe Local Government Area.
