The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade I, has ordered the immediate dissolution of an unauthorised coronation committee allegedly formed without his approval.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the monarch warned that any further activities or meetings linked to the committee would be deemed illegal and not tolerated.
Oba Owoade stressed that any committee or event related to his coronation must receive official approval from his office.
The statement, titled “Coronation Committee Setup in Oyo Town—Notice of Cease & Desist,” declared, “Any committee or activity established without His Imperial Majesty’s prior consent shall be considered unauthorised and will not be allowed to exist.”
He further directed those involved to halt all engagements related to the committee immediately.
The statement clarified that no official approval had been given for any such committee and warned against further meetings on the matter.
The monarch also emphasised that any fundraising efforts for the coronation would be at the discretion of the royal family, which would determine the composition of an official committee if necessary.
He acknowledged the organisers’ efforts and assured them they would be informed should their contributions be required.
However, he maintained that all coronation-related initiatives must be cleared by his office before being made public.
