AY Makun’s ‘The Waiter’ Crosses N300 Million at Nigerian Box Office

Nigerian comedian, actor, and producer Ayo Makun has achieved another major milestone with his latest movie, The Waiter.

The action-comedy film surpassed the N300 million mark at the Nigerian box office, grossing N305.1 million as of January 15, 2025. This impressive success places the film among the top-grossing Nollywood releases.

Released on December 20, 2024, The Waiter crossed the N200 million threshold within just two weeks, earning N218.6 million by early January. Its box office earnings continue to grow, with the film adding N26.6 million in its fourth week of release.

This achievement positions The Waiter alongside other Nollywood blockbusters, including Toyin Abraham’s Alakada: Bad and Boujee and the record-breaking Everybody Loves Jenifa, which has earned over N1.6 billion.

The film follows AY Makun as Akpos, a down-on-his-luck character who takes a temporary job as a waiter at the Crystal Hotel.

The plot thickens during an event hosted by the Minister of Poverty Alleviation, where a scheme to support the underprivileged is being launched. The film combines humour, wit, and action, resonating with audiences and showcasing AY’s knack for compelling storytelling.

Beyond his success in film, AY Makun is a versatile entertainer. He stars in and directs the Nigerian sitcom AY’s Crib and hosts the popular comedy show AY Live, featuring top comedians like Bovi and Helen Paul.

As the CEO of Corporate World Entertainment Nigeria, AY has expanded his influence in various entertainment sectors. He is also an investor in stand-up comedy through his AY Open Mic Challenge, which gives emerging comedians a platform.

With this remarkable success, The Waiter further solidifies AY Makun’s position as a key figure in Nollywood and the wider entertainment industry.

Fans eagerly await what his next project will bring.
