Bandits Kill LG Chairman’s Police Escort In Katsina

Tragedy struck in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina State on Tuesday when gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the residence of the Chairman, Matazu Deyi, killing his police escort, Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal.

Sources said the policeman was killed when the armed attackers invaded the residence of the chairman but were met with resistance.

Although the council chairman and his family were at home at the time.of the attack, they managed to escape into safety.

Residents said the attack caused significant damage to parts of the Chairman’s house.

Malumfashi LGA is among the areas in Katsina State frequently plagued by insecurity.

Reports indicate that terrorist attacks, including killings, abductions, and cattle rustling, have become a regular occurrence in several local councils, particularly those close to forest reserves.

The state government has through the Community Watch Corps (CWC) has been working alongside security agencies to combat banditry.

Tuesday’s attack has also raised fresh concerns over the effectiveness of those measures and the need for enhanced security strategies.

The Katsina State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident as at the time of this report.

Efforts to reach the police spokesperson, DSP Sadiq Aliyu for comments have been unsuccessful as he is yet to response to the message sent to him
