BREAKING: Fubara commends Supreme Court, reaches out to Cole, others

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dedicated his Supreme Court victory to God, urging his opponents in the March governorship election to join hands with his administration to build a competitive state to reckon with.

The governor stated his resolve to remain committed to the purpose for which he was elected, assuring that he will not allow anything to distract governance.

Fubara spoke when he addressed newsmen shortly after the Supreme Court affirmed his election as the governor of the state.The governor said his triumph at the Supreme Court has laid to rest the legal battles that added to the distractions his administration grappled with in the last eight months. He said: “About an hour ago, the Supreme Court revalidated our mandate in the election. It is a victory for the entire state.

“It is important for us to note that we need this victory to consolidate the purpose of governance. Prior to this time, we have had a few distractions here and there.”

MEANWHILE, following Fubara’s victory at the Supreme Court, the Acting State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Aaron Chukwuemeka, has urged the governor to see this as an opportunity to unite the party and the state.

Chukwuemeka, in a congratulatory statement, yesterday, also urged that any form of rancor should be avoided, saying that development will only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and stability.

While thanking the Judiciary for being steadfast, he said that the judgement is a testament to the party’s collective labour from the primary to the campaigns and then to the general elections.

Also, a civil rights group known as Rivers Peace Initiative (RPI) has called on the governor to also adopt a ‘no victor, no vanquish’ approach in the face of the political situation in the state.

Convener of the group, Obinna Egbogidi, also urged politicians to refrain from using inflammatory, derogatory and vexing words to avoid heating the political and socio-economic landscape of the state.

Fubara dedicates Supreme Court Victory to God, extends olive branch to Tonye Cole, other opponents.

ALSO, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, Magnus Abe, said the Supreme Court judgment has laid to rest all litigation distractions against the current administration. Abe commended all the parties involved in the litigation processes, especially Cole and Fubara, saying it is part of democratic process.
