The Secretary General of Chidi Ibeh led faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro has condemned the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra in custody.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo stated that it is sad that Kanu is spending another Christmas in detention.
He said such a prolonged detention is worrisome.
He noted with dismay that observations revealed that top political leaders, specifically two serving governors from the zone and a former governor are those behind the continuous detention of the Kanu, noting that they are consumed by their individual ambitions for the 2027 vice president position.
According to Isiguzoro, the public proclamation of “Release Nnamdi Kanu” serves as mere rhetoric while their behind-the-scenes machinations suggest a direct message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: “Do not release Nnamdi Kanu immediately”, tagging them as enemies of the Ndigbo.
He maintained that this duplicity poses a grave threat to the peace and stability of the Southeast.
He insisted that the escalating violence and insecurity that plague the Southeast region can be traced back not solely to external influences but to the dereliction of duty by these leaders, who become notable beneficiaries of the security votes allocated to them amid this unrest.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is unequivocal in stating that the naiveté displayed by some of these politicians regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s release is alarming. Furthermore, one Governor’s neutral stance only underscores their singular focus on securing their own re-election rather than addressing the critical issues facing our people,” he said.
