A leadership crisis has taken over Ugolo community in Okpe local government area of Delta State.
Several persons have sustained high degree of injuries following an attack launched on the victims in an attempt to topple the executive of the community.
Those who sustained injuries are Mr Ariayire Michael, Mr Solomon Uba, Precious Emakpor and others who were still receiving treatments at private hospitals.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Commissioner of Police, Department of State Security, DSS and others have been called to intervene over the community crises before the community becomes something else.
The president-general of the community, Okakuro Benjamin and the youth’s secretary, Mr Akintia Israel said they launched the attack on the Ugolo community executive in an attempt to takeover power from those in leadership which led to many sustaining several injuries.
They named those alleged to have launched the attack on the victims as Mr Edafe Onokpite, Mr Efewu Itigha, Akpesiri Itigha, Paul Iboyitete (Ejime), special assistant to the Delta State governor and Mr Tefe Onokpite whom he said has been arrested and in police custody.
“It is alarming that an individual holding public office such as that of special assistant to the governor could be involved in this kind of incident, using sophisticated weapons and other firearms to engage their victims in such a violent manner.
“We are calling on the Delta state government to take decisive action in addressing this situation and ensures that those behind the attack are investigated and are held accountable for their actions.
“We appeal to government to disengage the firearms S.A and take proper action for the community to be safe for all and especially come 2027 Elections.
“We are still very sure they are still after the life of some of the youth leaders, hence we are calling on the government, Delta state Commissioner of Police, Department of State Security and other security agents to intervene as matter of urgency before it will be out of hand.” they requested.
