Northern Initiative Forum for Growth has pleaded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider appointing Bala Maijama’a Wunti as the substantive Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Speaking to journalists in Bauchi yesterday, the group’s national coordinator, Alkasim Nuhu Abdulkadir said, “We gather here today as representatives of the Northern Initiative Forum for Growth, to address a pressing matter of regional balance and representation.
“As you are aware, the administration of President Ahmad Bola Tinubu has been making strategic appointments to address various regional, and national challenges. One of the much-needed perceived appointments is envisioned from the Northeast sub-region”.
Mallam Alkassim Abdulkadir, while commending President Tinubu for his efforts to promote inclusivity and regional balance, expressed the belief that the appointment of Bala Maijama’a Wunti as the substantive Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is akin to putting the square peg in a square hole.
“As you may recall, previous administrations have made strategic appointments to address regional challenges. The appointment of Yusuf Burutai as Chief of Army Staff from the North-East zone helped to curtail the Boko Haram insurgency. Similarly, the appointment of Mamman as Minister of Power from the same zone facilitated the development of a gigantic power plant project”.
Abdulkadir pointed out, “Under the current administration, the appointment of ministers from the North-West to address insecurity challenges have since been yielding positive results. We believe that appointing Wunti as GMD of NNPCL will be a strategic move to promote regional balance and development, as it would also culminate to drilling realization of Kolmani 2 oil well”.
According to him, apart from the much-talked-about regional balance, the realization of the Kolmani oil drilling would also jerk up the FAAC for enhanced derivable revenues to speed up the nation’s economic growth and development
