Gunmen kill police inspector, free seven inmates

In an attack on the Okigwe Correctional Farm Settlement in Umualomoke, Okigwe, Imo State, some gunmen killed a police inspector and freed seven prisoners.

While they were kidnapping the officer in command of the farm settlement, the gunmen also targeted Senator Patrick Ndubeze’s mansion in Okigwe.

The early Monday attack has been attributed to men belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network.

Considering its low per capita income in comparison to other African countries, the Presidency on Monday referred to Nigeria as a “very very poor” nation.

Egbetokun gave the order that anyone caught disseminating misleading information or using cyberbullying shall face legal action.

The force’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday that certain people have begun posting outdated information on social networking sites in an effort to “erode public confidence in the policing system.”

After its presidential election was postponed, Senegal’s political situation was discussed by a diplomatic mission dispatched by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the country.

The expedition was announced by the parliamentary office of the 15-member Nations bloc on Monday. It was added that the speaker of the parliament, Sidie Mohamed Tunis, would lead other parliamentarians in meeting with politicians, civil society representatives, and Senegalese authorities.

The expedition is scheduled to take place in Senegal from February 12–14, 2024, according to a release.
