Kogi Govt To EFCC: Don’t Intimidate Bello
KOGI State Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are on a collision course over moves by the commission to bring corruption charges against the former governor, Yahaya Bello.
The state government said the commission was only trying to tarnish the image and reputation of the former governor.
After crossing the hurdle of succession and handing over to his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, the state government is agitated that the anti-graft body is trying to witch-hunt Bello.
According to the Information and Communications Commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, there is a sinister motive, in fact, an agenda, to charge Bello for diverting public funds when he was in office.
Cement Price Soars By 100% In Three Years
The price of cement has risen by 100 per cent in three years to a record high of N7,000, on the back spiralling inflation in the country.
Sunday PUNCH findings showed that the prices of cement ranged between N3,300 and N3,500 in Lagos and Ogun States in March 2021 but have jumped to between N6,500 and N7,000 in both states as of last week.
Dangote Cement’s Group Executive Director in charge of Strategy, Portfolio Development, and Capital Projects, Devakumar Edwin, had in 2021 attributed the high cost of cement in Nigeria to the global rise in demand for cement as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
“Nigeria is no exception as a combination of monetary policy changes and low returns from the capital market has resulted in a significant increase in construction activity. To ensure that we meet local demands, we had to suspend exports from our recently inaugurated export terminals, thereby foregoing dollar earnings,” he said.
Tinubu Inherited Poor Economy From Buhari – Arewa Group
Eminent Nigerians in the North under the aegis of the Arewa Initiative for Defence and Promotion of Democracy, have said the harsh economic situation being faced by Nigerians is the fallout of the comatose economy handed over to President Bola Tinubu by his predecessor.
The Arewa Initiative which is also an amalgamation of Pro-Democracy Groups from the 19 northern states under the Chairmanship of Prof Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji also stated that Nigerians should ignore sponsored protests staged against the Federal Government in Kano and Niger states recently.
Some Nigerians particularly in Minna, the Niger State capital, recently took to the streets, protesting the harsh economic situation in the country arising from recent hike in prices of goods and commodities.
Similar protests were also held in Kano and Kogi states over the hardship in the country.
