Myriad of Nigerians have called out the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, for promising to win the AFCON trophy for President Bola Tinubu.
The backlash against the NFF heightened after the competition’s hosts, Cote d’Ivoire beat the Super Eagles 2-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday night at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
The tournament marked the 34th edition of the continent’s competition.
The Super Eagles were gunning for a fourth AFCON title before the Ivorians stopped their ambition in the final.
Reacting to the NFF’s promise to Tinubu, a socio-political commentator said: “For Tinubu or for Nigeria? Why politicize football? What kind of nonsense is this?”
Meanwhile, a burst of joy and jubilation inside Alassane Ouattara Stadium ensued in the Ivorian camp after the final.
Adingra flew past Aina on the left wing, as he did all night, and sent a wicked cross into the Nigeria penalty area.
Haller stole a march on Troost-Ekong but the ball met him at an awkward height, how would he possibly divert it towards goal?
Somehow, he stretched his leg and got his front four studs onto the ball and diverted it perfectly into the top corner.
However, there was a moment of excitement amid the grief and sorrow expressed by Super Eagles players during their 1-2 loss to Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday night at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
