Clash Between Police, NDLEA Causes Panic in Bayelsa

There was chaos at the Ekeki Police Division in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State when a violent clash broke out between members of the Nigeria Police and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday.

It was reported that some NDLEA agents were present to apprehend a woman believed to be involved in drug trafficking and had even logged their activity in the police records before executing their operation.

However, as they were conducting their mission, police officers from the Ekeki Police Division intervened, leading to a dispute. During the ensuing confrontation, multiple gunshots rang out, creating panic among residents.

It was reported that two NDLEA vehicles involved in the operation were struck by gunfire from the police aimed at stopping the agency from taking the suspect into custody.

Witnesses say that it appeared the police were allegedly shielding the drug suspect, allowing her to continue her drug activities within the police division’s vicinity.

NDLEA spokesman, Mr Howells Oba, confirmed the incident, adding that the agency will formally issue a statement regarding the situation but noted that they were trying to resolve the issue and restore peace.
