Egypt Rejects Forced Displacement of Palestinians
Egypt strongly rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians on Sunday after US President Donald Trump suggested moving the Gaza Strip’s population to Egypt and Jordan. In a statement, Egypt’s foreign ministry reiterated its firm support for the Palestinian people’s right to remain on their land and emphasised that it opposes any actions that undermine Palestinian sovereignty, including displacement, settlement, or annexation of land.
Trump, commenting on the aftermath of 15 months of war, stated that Gaza had turned into a “demolition site” and expressed his desire for Egypt and Jordan to accept displaced Palestinians.
Both countries have cautioned against such plans, with Egypt repeatedly warning that any efforts to forcibly move Palestinians would undermine the foundation for Palestinian statehood. President Abdelfattah al-Sisi of Egypt has called any such displacement a “red line,” stressing that it would jeopardise Egypt’s national security.
The Egyptian foreign ministry also called for the enforcement of the “two-state solution,” underlining that forcibly removing Palestinians from their land would render such a solution impossible.
