Elephant Kills Tourist in Kruger National Park
A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a tourist was killed by an elephant in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, as confirmed by the South African National Parks (SAN Parks) agency.
The attack took place near the Crocodile River at Malelane Gate, when the elephant charged and trampled the tourist. SAN Parks expressed condolences, stating that the unfortunate event led to the loss of life.
The agency has urged the public not to share images of the incident on social media.
Kruger Park, covering an extensive 20,000 square kilometres (7,700 square miles) of Savannah, is South Africa’s largest game reserve, extending into Mozambique. Visitors are typically required to remain inside their vehicles, except in designated areas like fenced camps and picnic spots.
SAN Parks added that further details would be provided later, following an investigation.
This tragic event follows a similar occurrence in 2021 when a suspected poacher was killed by elephants in the same park.
