Everton Survive Spurs’ Second-Half Rally to Secure Win
Everton secured a vital 3-2 victory over a struggling Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, easing their relegation worries in the Premier League. The Toffees, who had been struggling with goals, took full advantage of Spurs’ defensive frailties and injury problems, scoring all three of their goals in the first half.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin broke the deadlock on 13 minutes, with Iliman Ndiaye doubling Everton’s lead shortly after. An own goal from Spurs’ Archie Gray compounded the visitors’ misery, leaving them three goals down at the break.
Despite Tottenham’s second-half resurgence, with goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, the damage was already done, and Everton held on for their first win in seven league games.
The win lifts Everton four points clear of the relegation zone, while Tottenham’s loss leaves them just four points above the Toffees in 15th place, increasing the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.
Chairman Daniel Levy felt the ire of Spurs fans, who chanted for change, as Postecoglou’s future at the club becomes uncertain despite their ongoing participation in three cup competitions.
