Hamas, Israel Deal on Gaza Ceasefire and Hostage Release

Hamas and Israel agreed to a ceasefire Wednesday, a deal that will end 15 months of fighting in Gaza.

This is coming after Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met with negotiators from Hamas and Israel in order to secure a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The deal will pause fighting in Gaza and lead to the phased release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, a source states on CNN.

The deal will ensure that Hamas it’s resistance groups release 33 hostages seized from Israel during the attacks of October 7, 2023.

In return, Israel agreed to release hundreds of Palestinian it has held in custody over the years.

The agreement would be a source of reprieve from war for the people of Gaza in more than a year, and only the second since the Israeli bombardment began.

The deal will allow Palestinian civilians to return to northern Gaza and there would be a massive influx of humanitarian aid that Israel had blocked since the inception of the war.

While negotiations were ongoing, Israeli forces stepped up attacks on Gaza, bombing a school-turned-shelter and several homes across the Strip, and killed at least 62 people over the latest 24-hour reporting period.
