Inter Crush Lecce to Keep Napoli in Sight in Title Race

Inter Milan delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, thrashing Lecce 4-0 to remain just three points behind Serie A leaders Napoli. Goals from Davide Frattesi, Lautaro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries, and Mehdi Taremi secured the reigning champions’ seventh victory in eight league games, as they continued their impressive form.

Simone Inzaghi’s side is also four points ahead of third-placed Atalanta, with a game in hand following December’s abandoned match at Fiorentina due to Edoardo Bove’s on-field medical emergency.

Inter are hitting their stride at a pivotal moment in the season. Their upcoming fixtures include a Champions League clash with Monaco and the highly anticipated Milan derby next weekend. The team extended their remarkable away record, securing their eighth consecutive away win in Serie A without conceding a goal since September.

Inter took an early lead in the sixth minute through Davide Frattesi, who tapped in after Marcus Thuram’s dazzling footwork and clever assist. Despite having two goals ruled out for tight offsides, the visitors doubled their advantage when captain Lautaro Martinez rifled in his sixth goal in eight matches just before halftime.

Denzel Dumfries sealed the win with a second-half goal, brilliantly set up by Martinez’s backheel. Mehdi Taremi then added the fourth from the penalty spot after Frattesi was fouled by Lecce’s goalkeeper, Wladimiro Falcone.

AC Milan, meanwhile, produced a stunning late comeback to secure a 3-2 victory over Parma in a chaotic lunchtime encounter. Heading into stoppage time trailing 2-1 after Enrico Delprato’s strike, Milan rallied with goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Samuel Chukwueze, sending fans at San Siro into ecstasy.

Despite the thrilling win, tensions at Milan were evident. Manager Sergio Conceicao was involved in a heated exchange with former captain Davide Calabria, who was recently replaced by Mike Maignan. Conceicao downplayed the altercation, calling it “a dressing room matter,” but the episode highlighted underlying unrest.

Elsewhere, Lazio hosted Fiorentina in a late Sunday match, aiming to extend their lead over fifth-placed Juventus, who suffered a 2-1 loss to Napoli on Saturday.
