Kebbi State Increases School Feeding Budget to N350 Million

The Kebbi State Government has announced an increase in its monthly budget for the secondary schools’ feeding programme, raising it from N200 million to N350 million.

This move was revealed by Governor Nasir Idris during a “thank-you” visit to Suru, Koko/Besse, and Maiyama local government areas on Thursday.

Governor Idris emphasised that the increase in funding is aimed at improving both the quality and quantity of meals provided to students, to enhance retention rates and academic focus.

Furthering his commitment to education, Governor Idris also highlighted his administration’s implementation of a free education policy. This policy covers examination registration, tuition fees, and scholarships for students in secondary and tertiary institutions.

The governor explained that this initiative is designed to make education more accessible and reduce the financial burden on parents.

Governor Idris disclosed that his government had constructed 366 new schools and rehabilitated 1,816 existing ones to expand access to quality education.

Additionally, all schools have been equipped with furniture, instructional materials, and teaching aids to support the learning process.

As a professional teacher, Governor Idris affirmed his dedication to improving the education sector and advancing the state’s educational standing both nationally and internationally.

Beyond education, Governor Idris reiterated his government’s support for agricultural productivity.

He revealed plans to launch an irrigation farming initiative in February, which will include the provision of 30,000 solar-powered and CNG-powered water pumping machines, along with free fertilisers for farmers.

The governor also assured residents of continued food support, including free grains and meal provisions for the upcoming Ramadan fast.

In related developments, the Nigerian government has earmarked N100 billion for the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) as part of the 2025 Appropriation Bill. This initiative aims to provide meals to public primary school students, improving education and health outcomes while supporting local agriculture.
