Leverkusen Stay Close to Bayern with 3-1 Win Over Gladbach

Florian Wirtz delivered a brilliant performance, scoring twice to lead Bayer Leverkusen to a 3-1 victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday. The win kept Leverkusen four points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who secured a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg earlier in the day.

Wirtz opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after receiving a pass from Granit Xhaka, finishing calmly past the Gladbach goalkeeper. In the second half, Wirtz converted a penalty after a handball by Gladbach, and Patrik Schick added a third goal from a Wirtz assist, continuing his remarkable goal-scoring form with 12 goals in his last eight league games.

Gladbach pulled one back in stoppage time through Tim Kliendienst, but the result ensured Leverkusen remained in the hunt for the title. However, there was concern for Leverkusen as Martin Terrier suffered a potentially serious ankle injury.

Earlier, Bayern Munich maintained their lead with a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg, thanks to Leon Goretzka’s brace. The victory saw Bayern extend their advantage at the top, with Wolfsburg unable to end their 32-match winless streak at the Allianz Arena.
