Marmoush Nears Man City Transfer, Dropped for Dortmund Clash

Eintracht Frankfurt have excluded forward Omar Marmoush from their matchday squad for Friday’s clash with Borussia Dortmund, citing ongoing transfer negotiations with Manchester City.

The Egyptian striker has been a standout performer this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists in just 17 Bundesliga matches. Reports suggest a winter move to the Premier League champions is imminent.

“Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in talks with another club for the transfer of Omar Marmoush. The player is therefore not part of the team today,” the club announced on social media ahead of the Dortmund game.

Speaking to DAZN, Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Kroesche confirmed the forward’s likely departure.

“It looks like Omar will be leaving us in the direction of Manchester City,” Kroesche said. “We’ve been in regular discussions with Manchester City over the past few days.”

Marmoush joined Frankfurt in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer from Wolfsburg and has quickly established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s top talents.

Reports from German and international media suggest that Manchester City, who are currently struggling in the Premier League and sit 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, are prepared to pay up to €80 million (£68.5 million) to secure Marmoush’s services.

The move could bolster City’s attack as they look to salvage their season, while Frankfurt will lose a key player during a crucial stage of their campaign.
