NCAA Begins Safety Audit of Max Air After Tyre Burst

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has commenced a safety audit of Max Air following a tyre burst incident involving one of its aircraft at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Tuesday night.

The audit began immediately after the incident, which occurred at 10:57 pm when Flight VM1605, arriving from Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, landed in Kano.

The aircraft reportedly suffered a tyre burst upon landing, causing panic among passengers. However, all onboard were safely evacuated without major injuries.

It is believed the plane may have lost its nose landing gear tyre, leading to the incident.

One passenger, Abdullahi Ibrahim, described the moment as tense: “As soon as we landed, there was a loud sound, and the plane shook violently. Some passengers started praying, but the crew assured us everything was under control. We are just grateful to be safe.”

Efforts to reach Max Air officials for a statement were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. However, aviation experts have reassured the public that such incidents, while concerning, are not uncommon in the industry.

Meanwhile, normal flight operations have resumed at Kano airport as authorities work to clear the affected aircraft from the runway.
