NSCDC Arrests Eight for Oil Theft, Vandalism in Rivers
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended eight suspects involved in illegal petroleum dealings and vandalism of public infrastructure in Rivers State.
Rivers State NSCDC Commandant Joachim Okafor, while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital, revealed that the arrests were made in various parts of the state.
The suspects were caught transporting illegally refined petroleum products and vandalised concrete rods, manhole beams, and metals from public facilities.
The Command’s Anti-Vandal Unit also impounded five vehicles, including three trucks used for transporting stolen crude and vandalised materials.
Okafor confirmed ongoing interrogations to identify the suspects’ sponsors and emphasised the Command’s renewed focus on tackling economic sabotage and protecting critical national assets.
He urged potential vandals to desist, warned of strict action, and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities in their communities.
