Oba Olatunji Fayemi has been officially installed as the first Onitedo of Mahintedo in the Ilaje council area of Ondo State, South – West Nigeria. At the grand ceremony held in Mahintedo on Friday, the monarch received the instrument of appointment and staff of office, formalising his kingship.

Representing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the ceremony, Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami congratulated the people of Mahintedo on their first officially recognized monarch. He described the appointment as a significant milestone for the community according to a press statement By John Paul Akinduro, Press Secretary to the Governor (Office of the Deputy Governor).

The recognition of Oba Fayemi follows the recommendations of the Justice C.E.T Ajama Commission of Inquiry on Chieftaincy Matters and the approval of the Onitedo kingship stool by the Ondo State Government on December 9, 2024.

“While rejoicing with Kabiyesi on this well-deserved recognition, it is my prayer that God Almighty will endow you with the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to lead your people rightly in the enormous task of traditional leadership,” the governor said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the new monarch to prioritize peace, unity, and development within Mahintedo, stressing that traditional leaders play a critical role in community progress.

Dele Adesanmi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, also spoke at the event, highlighting the strict adherence to due process in approving the Onitedo kingship stool.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Fayemi expressed gratitude to the state government and his community. He pledged to govern fairly and work closely with the government to achieve the desired development in Mahintedo.

Development Projects for Mahintedo

As part of the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa also commissioned a cassava processing mill in Mahintedo. The project, a partnership between the Ondo State Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has a production capacity of 400 kilograms of garri per day.

Describing the project as a landmark achievement, the governor emphasized its role in boosting food security in Ondo State and creating positive economic impacts for the Mahintedo community.

Additionally, the foundation for a new community market was laid during the ceremony. The market project was facilitated by Hon. Olawumi Fayemi-Obayelu, representing Ilaje Constituency 2 in the Ondo State House of Assembly.

The governor used the occasion to thank residents of Ilaje Local Government for their overwhelming support in the last governorship and local government elections. He assured them of the administration’s commitment to delivering more development projects across the state.

The installation of Oba Fayemi and the inauguration of critical infrastructure underscore Ondo State’s dedication to enhancing traditional leadership and improving the lives of its citizens.
