Police Charge Sowore with Cyberbullying, Other Offences

The Nigeria Police Force plans to re-arraign human rights advocate Omoyele on charges of cyberbullying, jeopardising police officers, and other charges.

The new allegations are referenced in case number FHC/ABJ/CR/23/2025/.

Sources say the police have abandoned their previous intention to transfer Sowore to Lagos for his trial.

Rather, the proceedings will take place in Abuja after the earlier strategy was revealed. This relocation is considered a response to public reaction in Lagos, with many expressing their desire to avoid further disturbances.

Sowore is currently held at the Nigerian Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) facility in Abuja, having initially responded to a police request regarding a viral video that highlighted alleged police extortion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Access Road in Lagos.

However, Sowore declined the bail terms, which mandated him to present a level 16 civil servant as a surety and to surrender his passport.

The police invitation, issued on January 23, 2025, listed several charges, including obstructing public officials, defiance, intimidation, and cyberstalking.
