Principal Suspect Of Terrorist Attack Escapes To Cameroon

The Kano State Police commissioner, CP Salman Dogo, has announced that the principal suspect of the planned terrorist attack to which the force issued an intelligence report barring all public gatherings in the state has escaped to Cameroon.

He stated this at a special press conference on Monday in Kano, explaining that the suspect came from Chad and had killed eight people there.

The Commissioner further stated that the police acted on the intelligence report sent to them and swiftly used the anti-bomb squad to comb the entire venue of the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order Maulud at the Kofar Mata Stadium in Kano metropolis.

He explained that the terrorists planned to exploit the opportunity of the gathering to launch an attack in the state but had to leave the state following the announcement of the police action against the plot.

On the allegation that the intelligence report was politically motivated, the CP said that he and his grandparents are all members of the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order and would not use selfish motives to stop the event.

„In Kano, everything is politicised, and even the food you eat is politicised. They put politics in it.

„I am a Tijjaniyya, and my parents and grandparents are all Tijjaniyya. There is no way I can use any selfish motive to stop the gathering.

„We, along with the DSS, received an intelligence report that the terrorists are planning to use the Tijjaniyya Maulud event to launch an attack.

„We had to swing to action to flush out those in the stadium to comb the entire area where we found IED and diffused it.

„Those involved in the plan to launch the terrorist attack in the state have fled, and the person that hosted them was arrested.

„The principal terrorist, who led the group from Chad, has escaped to Cameroon. There, too, in Chad, he had killed eight people,“ he stated.
