Gunmen, disguised as women, have targeted a police checkpoint along Jibia-Batsari road in Katsina, killing two inspectors in Gurbin Magarya village.
The assailants, suspected to be bandits, fled with the officers’ rifles, leaving behind the operational vehicle and teargas at the scene.
A security source who confirmed the incident yesterday, said the attack took place on Thursday, noting that the victims were members of the police Joint Border Patrol.
The source added that their bodies were taken to Katsina General Hospital.
In a related incident, gunmen in their numbers in the early hours of Friday attacked the Gangara community in Jibia Local Government Area, where they killed four residents and injured six others.
A resident of the community who confirmed the attack to our reporter on telephone also added that the attackers kidnapped an unspecified number of residents, majority of them women and children.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, did not respond to an inquiry for confirmation from our reporter as at the time of filing this report, but promised some members of the press that he would investigate, and give feedback.
