Shettima Departs Abuja for 2025 Davos Economic Forum

Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Sunday to represent Nigeria at the 2025 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), taking place in Davos, Switzerland.

The WEF, renowned for convening world leaders, business executives, and development partners, will provide a platform to discuss pressing global economic issues and develop strategies to foster economic growth and resilience.

While in Davos, Shettima is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with other leaders, attend workshops, and participate in forums. His engagements aim to strengthen Nigeria’s partnerships and explore investment opportunities to boost the country’s economic growth.

Key events on the Vice President’s agenda include a workshop titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets,” organised by the African Development Bank in collaboration with the WEF. The workshop seeks to mobilise capital for Africa’s emerging markets, driving prosperity and resilience across the continent.

A major highlight of the workshop will be the announcement of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing Roadmap for Africa. This initiative, developed in partnership with the African Development Bank, will promote collaboration between public and private sector leaders to attract investments into Africa’s frontier markets.

Additionally, Shettima will co-chair a forum on “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa,” where discussions will focus on leveraging digital trade to drive economic growth. The forum will also address the private sector’s critical role in implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol, adopted by AU heads of state in January 2024.

Shettima is also scheduled to attend a Stakeholder Dialogue session titled “Global Risks 2025,” which will provide insights into the volatile global landscape shaped by geopolitical, technological, and environmental challenges.

Further engagements include attending a dinner for heads of state, government representatives, and international organisations, as well as sessions with the Annual Meeting 2025 Crystal Awardees and the International Business Council.

The Vice President is accompanied by key officials, including the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Aisha Rimi.

Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships, attracting investment, and fostering inclusive economic growth. He is expected to return to Abuja after the conclusion of his engagements in Davos.
