Suspect in ₦6Billion Fraud Not Witness in Edo Tribunal– EFCC

Jonathan Okunbor, a suspect under investigation for alleged misappropriation of ₦6 billion, was claimed to be a witness in the Edo State election tribunal by PDP governorship candidate Asue Ighodalo.

However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted this assertion.

In a statement on Wednesday, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale clarified that Okunbor is the primary suspect in a case involving the diversion of funds across all 18 local government areas in Edo State.

Investigations revealed that approximately ₦6 billion was funnelled to Kezmith Global Ventures, a company allegedly owned by Okunbor but operated under the name of another individual, Godfrey Emode.

Okunbor was arrested at the Eterno Hotel during a pre-trial meeting, despite resistance from Ighodalo and others.

The EFCC stated that its officers faced obstruction during the arrest but remained focused on their constitutional duties.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and its mission to combat corruption, irrespective of individuals’ affiliations with the tribunal.
