Trump Claims Credit for Israel-Hamas Ceasefire

US President-elect Donald Trump praised the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas on Wednesday, describing it as “epic” and attributing its success to his election victory.

The deal, which includes the release of hostages held in Gaza, was reached just days before Trump is set to begin his second term.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump posted: “We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!” His comments came before any formal acknowledgement from the Biden administration, which was involved in the negotiations.

Trump asserted that his administration’s forthcoming leadership was key in securing the agreement, adding that his national security team would work to prevent Gaza from becoming a “terrorist haven.”

He also signalled plans to pursue broader peace efforts in the Middle East, building on the Abrahamic Accords from his first term.
