UAE Announces Key Changes for Ramadan 2025
As preparations for Ramadan 2025 gather pace, the UAE has introduced several changes to make the holy month smoother for residents. These adjustments include reduced work hours, free parking during iftar, and altered school schedules, all designed to ease daily routines during this sacred period of fasting and prayer.
Key updates highlighted in a Gulf News report on Sunday include revised business hours, toll charges, and extended mall timings, aligning with the nation’s commitment to balancing tradition with practicality for its diverse population.
Here’s what residents should know ahead of Ramadan:
- Shorter Work Hours Private sector employees, including non-Muslims, will benefit from two fewer work hours daily, as mandated by Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022, helping create a better work-life balance during the holy month.
- Free Parking and New Toll Timings Parking fees and Salik tolls will follow Ramadan-specific schedules. Free parking will be available during iftar, and toll charges will be adjusted, with peak hours (9am–5pm) costing Dh6, while off-peak hours (7am–9am and 5pm–2am) are reduced to Dh4. Toll-free periods are from 2am–7am.
- School Hours Reduced While official school timings for 2025 are pending, private schools are expected to follow last year’s pattern, with shorter five-hour days and Friday classes ending by noon, as per Dubai’s KHDA.
- Late-Night Shopping and Dining Malls will stay open longer, catering to evening shoppers, while restaurants will mostly operate after dusk, offering dine-in services in enclosed areas during fasting hours and takeaway options.
- Community and Convenience These updates aim to enhance convenience and cultural harmony during Ramadan, making it easier for residents to balance their spiritual practices with everyday activities.
Ramadan 2025 will begin on March 1, depending on the moon sighting. The month marks the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is a time for fasting, prayer, charity, and spiritual reflection, culminating in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
