US-Bound Flight Makes Emergency Return to Lagos – FAAN
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that 31 passengers and seven crew members sustained injuries during an emergency landing of United Airlines flight UA613 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, en route to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) from Lagos, carried 245 passengers, eight attendants, and three pilots.
In a statement on Friday, Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, reported that the flight departed Lagos at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday but made an air return, landing safely at 3:22 a.m. Friday.
“All passengers and crew disembarked safely,” Orah stated. “However, four passengers and two crew members sustained serious injuries, while 27 passengers and five crew members suffered minor injuries.”
Emergency responders, including aerodrome rescue teams and aviation medical staff, were on standby and provided immediate assistance. Injured passengers were transported to clinics at the airport, and those requiring further care were stabilised and transferred to Duchess Hospital in Ikeja.
Passengers with minor injuries received first aid and were discharged. Others were accommodated at a hotel, while the aircraft sustained no major damage.
FAAN assured the public that updates will be provided as necessary.
