Online scams are becoming more prevalent these days and also getting easier to fall for as well.
To learn how to avoid them, KX News sat down with Christopher Maxwell, who has plenty of experience with these scam artists — after all, he was once a scammer himself.
In the time leading up to Valentine’s Day, people are rushing to find the perfect gift for their sweetheart but Maxwell says that you need to be wary of online sites where you’re looking to buy items. The easiest way to find out if a website is a scam, for example, is by searching for incorrect spelling or grammatical errors.
“When you look at what they are spelling,” he explained, “they make mistakes sometimes — like putting ‘amazon dot net’. When you look for mistakes like this, if the spelling isn’t correct, or the URL is wrong, it’s a scam.”
Maxwell has more tips for you at home, on how to avoid scams. We’ll be sharing some of those later this week.
